The second stage of the Sertões Rally started this Monday (20) morning, called “The life of the Traveler”, starting in Barreirinhas with the destination of Bacabal, both in Maranhão. With a heavy sand predominance, the track had stretches with GPS and Route book navigation, besides the radar area. The special has 148 kilometers.
The bikes were the first to start with Felipe Zanol ahead. He faced a hard race, in which several riders gave up. Bruno de Paula fell, and because of pain on his wrist, went back to the Bivouac , abandoning the race. André Cheron, Aleksey Stivanin, Thomas Hahn and Alcino Bortocello also didn’t complete.
Meanwhile, Dario Julio Souza accelerated and overtook Zanol (who still leads the overall standing with 04h57m), finishing the race in first a bit over 2 minutes ahead of the second place.
Within the quads, which started after, Tom Rosa won today’s stage, 2h39m22s. Now, he searches a recovery, with approximately seven hours difference to the leader: Bento da Silva is with 6h19m29s in the overall standing.
Another fire within the UTVs
The vehicles started right after the quads, and another fire happened during the race. Carlinhos Ambrósio and Dionízio Silva Neto’s car caught fire and the support team had to control the situation. Both are well.
Jason Oliveira and Marcos Lara ended the special in the lead and with the best time, 2h46m9s, follwed by drivers Heronaldo Segundo and Guga Costa, with 2h47m3s.
